About JAY

I am a devoted husband and father to my six year-old son. I am also a dedicated community leader and a passionate soccer player. I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, in Aerospace Engineering from UC San Diego and Johns Hopkins University. Respectively, I have worked with both the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in their various engineering endeavors .

As a 13 year resident of Montgomery County, I have volunteered my time advocating for education and transportation issues.

Growing up in a poor immigrant family, I experienced the opportunity gap and discrimination first hand. I was the ESOL kid. I was the "FARM" kid. This gives me a unique perspective on how to address the opportunity gap. Public education was my path to social mobility. I am deeply grateful for it. Part of the reason I am running for the Board of Education is to ensure that this upwardly mobile path will still be here for our children and grand children.

I believe that ALL of our children are capable of academic excellence, and it takes a "village" to unlock their potential. This village comes from full engagement among family, school, and community. It has been shown over and over that community and family engagement are critical to our children's well-being and academic performance.

Furthermore, our schools should provide a safe, nurturing , and enabling environment. Our schools should provide access to rigorous STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineer, Art, and Math) curriculum for ALL of our children. We must make sure our children are ready for a rapidly evolving future.

Lastly, our schools and the community need to have mutual trust. Accountability, transparency, and consistent communication are the bedrock of that trust.

Our schools, our children, and our community shall move forward as one.
